Mrs. Baima and Floyd

Baima and Dog

Mrs. Baima is our lovely classroom assistant. She has a dog (horse) named Floyd. “Hello Floyd, do you want to go for a walk on the boardwalk near the beach?” Whatever Floyd wants, Floyd gets! He is a BIG dog (horse) I think he weighs as much as twenty-five Mrs. Baimas! I am Not kidding…seriously…if YOU have seen Floyd, you would know I am NOT lying…keep doggie biscuits in your backpack, you may need them if you run into Floyd and Mrs. Baima some day. Actually, Mrs. Baima doesn’t like doggie buscuits, but Floyd does…I am just saying.

Tell us about your favorite pet!

Field Trip

It is so nice to be able to go on a field trip for a day of learning! We went to the University of California, San Diego, for a tour and learned so much about the campus and its studies. We were taken on a tour of the campus by a student docent and shown the outdoor art exhibit, the different schools of study within the university, and the athletic facilities. Speaking of athletics, do you know who the UCSD mascot is? Hint: “Under the sea…”

UCSD Triton Banner

Yes, the Tritons!

Sun God

The Sun God by Niki de Saint Phalle is part of The Stuart Collection on the UCSD campus.

Legend has it that if you hold your breath, close your eyes, and walk underneath the statue backwards, you will get “A’s” on your report card!

Finally…we couldn’t do a field trip without our helper moms!

What was the most important thing you learn while visiting UCSD?

FlashLight Friday

FlashLight Friday Silent Reading

Every Friday after lunch we experience a classroom blackout. Not because the teacher didn’t pay the electric bill, but because it is FLASHLIGHT FRIDAY, of course!

What is your favorite thing about Fridays?

Summertime…

Every teacher I have ever had in elementary school began the new school year with one question, “What did you do on your summer vacation?” We usually wrote a paper and drew an illustration of one of our summertime activities. So, this year I am switching things around and I am asking students, “What do you think Mrs. Franz did over the summer and why do you think she is staring into this window?”

Laura at Window Laura Looking in Window North Church

This summer I visited the Old North Church in Boston while walking the Freedom Trail. What is the Old North Church famous for?

Paul Revere

Answer:

The Old North Church is the location from which the famous “One if by land, and two if by sea” signal is said to have been sent. This phrase is related to Paul Revere’s midnight ride, of April 18, 1775.

So, what did YOU do this summer?
